What is Matcha?

Matcha is a ground-up shade-grown tea called Tencha, which is turned into powdered green tea. Lattes, smoothies, ice cream, and baked goods can all be made with this highly nutritious tea.

Having been ground into powder form, quality matcha has more nutrition calories than brewed green tea, since it is consumed whole rather than infused in water and drained.

Matcha lattes are everyone’s favorite drink during the summer.

There is something refreshing about sipping a latte outside that you cannot get from coffee. The rich green texture works as eye candy during the summer season.

Now, let’s jump straight into the DIY iced matcha green tea latte recipe.

How to make an iced matcha latte

A cool and refreshing drink is perfect during warmer months. During the summer, most people enjoy cold beverages, while others prefer hot drinks. Find out how to make your favorite thirst quencher from the recipe below.

You can find the method you need for a matcha latte, regardless of your reason.

As with other matcha beverages, matcha latte iced doesn't need to brew. Using matcha as a tea latte option is convenient, as it doesn't require mixing the ingredients and you'll look fancy when you serve it.

Here are the instructions for making iced matcha lattes.

Select a high-quality matcha tea powder

Choosing your matcha powder is the most difficult part of making a green tea latte since you want that exact texture with a wonderful mouthful. This can be overwhelming!

But what typo matcha should you go for? How does baking grade, ceremonial grade, culinary grade, etc. differ from one another?

Chamberlain coffee latte grade matcha powder is my favorite matcha flavor.

For the best flavor and quality, make sure the brand you choose specifies "ceremonial grade" matcha green tea powder.

After picking your tea leaves powder, look for the tools...

Pick your tools

Perfectly blending and smoothing the matcha latte is another crucial part of making the perfect beverage.

Bamboo whisks are quite popular, but if you don't have one, don't be discouraged. Alternatively, you could use an immersion blender, a metal whisk, or even a milk frother.

I find the Chamberlian Coffee milk frother to be the best way to completely dissolve the powder in an iced latte.

Ingredients for an iced matcha latte

  1. Matcha powder - Make sure the matcha powder you buy is of high quality so that your coffee won't taste bitter. This is my go-to.
  2. Sweetener - Using maple syrup for sweetening a latte is a good idea. If you don't like maple syrup, you can use honey, even ice cream works well with it.
  3. Milk - If you prefer more dairy-free milk options, try oat milk, almond milk, cashew milk, or coconut water. Both hemp and soy work too! Choose whatever you have on hand.
  4. Water - When whisked, the matcha powder dissolves easily when it is dissolved in boiling water.

Prep time

Just 20 minutes to satisfy your thirst.

Method

Step 1 – Whisk matcha and hot water

Matcha green tea powder should first be mixed with hot water. If you wish, you can use a blender, bamboo whisk, cocktail shaker, or mini whisk to accomplish this.

TIP: If you do not have any of these ingredients, shake it vigorously in a mason jar or a glass jar.

STEP 2 – Pour matcha over ice cubes

Matcha is best prepared. Now add ice cubes and pour the drink over it.

STEP 3 – Add milk

Let it sit for a few minutes, then add your milk of choice.

If you want to add a little extra flavor, you can add almond extract or vanilla extract!

STEP 4 – Drink up!

Matcha powder can be used to make a stronger latte or you can omit the water altogether. It can be blended into milk with a blende for a few seconds to dissolve. After that, just pack it in a water bottle and you are good to go to work!

How can I make an ice-blended matcha latte?

Do you prefer blending drinking matcha? Do you want to leave behind the workout of a vigorous whisk for the carefree control of a blender?

Using a blender takes the finesse and guesswork out of the mixing process, so beginners and matcha maniacs alike can create deliciously smooth drinks cuisine. Follow this can’t-mess-up recipe to enjoy the creamy goodness of a blended matcha latte in minutes.

  1. First, open your blender and add all three ingredients: milk, ice, and matcha powder.
  2. Plug up your blender and firmly close the top. Pulse your blender until the mixture is smooth and creamy and then pour your blended matcha latte into your cup of choice.

Do you need to sift matcha latte?

A freshly sifted matcha tea latte is lump-free and smooth to drink. This is truly a wonderful beverage. Having said that, has this step been skipped due to laziness or rushing? Yes! Was it the end of the world? Definitely not. You can enjoy it even without sifting, but obviously with a compromise on the richness of this delicious drink.

Are matcha tea lattes sweetened?

To achieve the layered look seen in the pictures, a sweetener will be needed. Milk sinks because of sugar in it. It is also my personal preference to make an iced version slightly sweeter than hot matcha(this is my preference). Nonetheless, if you do not mind unsweetened matcha tea and the layering is not necessary to you, feel free to skip it.

Now the next thing might be thinking...

Is cold brew matcha tea the same as iced matcha green tea latte? Or the cold brew coffee is similar to cold coffee?

Well, They have a pretty cold gene, with just one difference...

Cold-brew is never exposed to heat, NEVER! We always add cold water and then the coffee or matcha green tea leaves to it. While for iced matcha, you need to first heat the water then add all the ingredients to make iced matcha.

Is there caffeine in matcha latte?

Matcha contains three times as much caffeine as regular tea, equivalent to coffee in terms of caffeine content. The l-theanine in matcha, a compound that incites relaxation without drowsiness, has a calming effect, which matcha enthusiasts say is different from caffeine buzz.

It's best to give up caffeine (including matcha) six hours before bed to aid in restful sleep.
